How Does Gout Affect Your Quality of Life?
Gout is accompanied many times with excruciating pain. The pain lessens over time but can still affect your life. Once a gout attack has started, your life is basically on hold until you can control the pain. A gout attack usually strikes suddenly, at night, and is most common in the large joint of the big toe. Over time, gout attacks can be more severe, last longer, and occur more often.
Reports show that a flare up can have a major impact on walking in 75% of people who have gout. Almost 71% of people with gout have trouble putting on shoes, and 70% cannot participate in recreational sports and activities. About one in five (21 percent) employed gout patients say that they have missed work in the last year due to a gout flare, with 23 percent saying they missed seven work days or more.
Gout (also called metabolic arthritis) is a disease caused by an excess of uric acid in the blood that leads to crystalline deposits in the small joints. The build up of these crystals cause an inflammatory reaction of the tissues. If left untreated, these deposits can increase in size and burst through the skin.
Gout occurs when mono-sodium urate crystals form on the articular cartilage of joints, on tendons, and in the surrounding tissues. Uric acid is more likely to form into crystals when there is an excess amount of uric acid available, a condition also known as hyperuricemia.
Hyperuricemia can be caused by a high level of purines in the body. Purines are amino acids that can be generated by the body itself or can be ingested in purine-rich foods (e.g. red-meat and beer).
Most people with gout do not produce more than the normal amount of uric acid, but instead have excretion deficiencies. The kidney is responsible for approximately one third of uric acid excretion, with the gut responsible for the rest. Many people with high levels of uric acid have defects in the kidneys that are genetically determined. Therefore, it is possible for people to be under the predisposition for developing gout.
Who Develops Gout?
Men between the ages of 40 and 50 are most likely to develop gout. There is some evidence that gout is genetically predisposed. Many people with gout have a family history. Many women who get gout after experiencing menopause have other medical conditions, such as diabetes.
What Effects Does Gout Have on Your Body?
Gout has symptoms similar to arthritis.
Gouty arthritis usually begins by affecting a single area. The big toe is the joint that is most commonly affected first. Other areas of the body that are readily affected are the instep, ankle, knee, wrist, and elbow. In rare instances the hip, spine, and shoulder are involved. The pain becomes progressively more severe, usually over a few hours, and is often excruciating. Swelling, warmth, redness, and exquisite tenderness may suggest infection. The overlying skin may become tense, warm, shiny, and red or purplish. Fever, tachycardia, chills, and malaise sometimes occur.
Chronic gouty arthritis can cause pain, deformity, and limited joint motion similar to rheumatoid arthritis.
Kidney Stones and Failure
Health publications report about 20% of patients with gout develop kidney stones. Complications include kidney obstruction and infection. If left untreated gout can lead to progressive renal disease. Gout is often complicated by other medical conditions such as hypertension. This causes more urate crystals to deposit in joint areas causing additional attacks.

“Thank You. Your product is a blessing. I have suffered with chronic gout for years and have taken the meds my doctor have given. I was not aware of the havoc those pills had on my liver. However, your product has done the trick. I had another blood test and since I have been taking your product my liver function has greatly improved. God bless. – Bob
“I was diagnosed with gout when I turned 40. I woke up in excruciating pain one night. The symptoms seemed to flare up every 3-4 months. I couldn’t do even the simplest things like walking anymore. I heard about Uricelax™ from my uncle who also has gout. I can’t believe the difference it has made in my life. – Joseph P., Boca Raton, Florida
“I have been suffering with gout for about 10 years now. I have tried all types of diets and all natural remedies. None of it really helped me. They would help for a little while but the attacks came back even worse than before. It got so bad I couldn’t put on any of my shoes. My pharmacist recommended Uricelax™. I am glad he did!” – Peter D., San Francisco, California
